Diagnosis Before Repair
The click with no flame. The pilot that won't hold. The remote that's forgotten what it's paired to. The glass that keeps going black. Every one of those has a cause, and the causes have names.
Guessing at them from a search result is how a Saturday disappears. A proper diagnosis from someone who works on these every week is how it doesn't.

From a Service Call
“I was highly impressed with Ryan who came out to service our jotul gas stove. He was very knowledgeable and courteous. Took great care to be sure no coals or dust was left behind. I particularly liked his honesty and explanations of my questions. He is a quality person, and it shows in his work ethic and straightforward manner. If you need work done on your stove you could do no better than to ask for him. I highly recommend him with no reservations.”

Straight Answers About Service
The questions every South Shore fireplace project runs into, answered the way we'd answer them at the counter.
Or Just Call the DeskWhat does a service call cost?
The diagnostic visit carries a stated fee, and you hear it when we call to schedule — before anyone drives. Repairs are priced from the diagnosis and put in writing before the work starts. We would rather tell you the number on the phone than surprise you at the door.
Do you service fireplaces you didn't sell?
Yes. We service gas fireplaces, inserts, and stoves across the brands we carry and plenty we don't, plus wood and pellet units. If yours falls outside what we can safely work on, we'll tell you on the phone instead of booking a visit we'd have to walk away from.
Do you sweep chimneys too?
We do, and that's one of the things that makes us unusual — the same company that services your fireplace also sweeps, inspects, relines, and repairs the chimney above it. You can find both on our chimney pages, and you can book them together.
How soon can you come out?
It depends on the season, and the first real cold snap fills the board fast. We'll give you an honest date when we call, not a window we'd have to walk back. If it's a no-heat call in January, say so — that changes where you land on the list.
Should I turn the pilot off over the summer?
Plenty of people do. It saves a little gas and keeps the firebox cooler. The catch is that a pilot that sat all summer sometimes won't relight in October, and that is one of the most common calls we get — and usually one of the quickest fixes.
How often should a gas fireplace be serviced?
Once a year. That's what the manufacturers design for and what keeps a warranty intact. Skip one year and it will usually forgive you. Skip five and January tends to pick the coldest week to bring it up.
When is a repair not worth doing?
When the parts chase costs more than the unit is worth. The signs are consistent: discontinued parts, a cracked firebox or heat exchanger, or a pre-1990 unit that can't reach modern efficiency no matter what we do. We'll say so plainly rather than bill our way around it — and the instant estimate will price the replacement honestly.
