The Annual Visit

Chimney Sweeping & Inspection in Plymouth, MA

Once a year, we clean the flue and go through the whole system—liner, crown, cap, flashing, and mortar—then tell you plainly what we found.

Why Once a Year

Why Annual Service Matters

Creosote builds as you burn, and it doesn't announce itself. Water gets into a cracked crown and works on the masonry every freeze. Animals move into an uncapped flue in the spring. None of it is dramatic on any given week.

An annual sweep and inspection catches all three while they're still small, and it's the record your insurer will ask for if you ever need one.

If it needs more than a sweep

When should I book the annual sweep?

Late summer or early fall, before the first cold snap fills the schedule. If you're reading this in November, book anyway — we'd rather fit you in than have you burn on a flue nobody has looked at.

Will it make a mess in my house?

It shouldn't, and our customers say so unprompted in their reviews. Drop cloths go down, the vacuum runs the whole time, and the area gets left the way we found it. That's not a courtesy, it's the job.

What if you find something wrong?

You hear about it that day, with an explanation of what it means and how urgent it actually is. Some findings are 'fix this before you burn again.' Most are 'watch it, and plan for it in a couple of years.' We'll tell you which is which.

Do gas fireplaces need sweeping too?

Not sweeping in the same sense, but yes to an annual inspection. Gas appliances vent, and vents block, corrode, and come apart. A gas unit that's never been looked at is the one that fails in January.

Do you sweep pellet stoves?

Yes, and pellet appliances need it more than most people expect. The vent run is short but the fly-ash builds fast, and a neglected pellet vent is a genuine safety issue rather than an efficiency one.
